This one came out really sharp. A homeowner in Fishers, Indiana wanted to carve out a defined planting bed in their yard - something that would hold soil, add structure, and give them a little privacy from the neighboring properties. Here's what we put together for them.

We built a curved stone retaining wall that follows the natural flow of the yard. The curve matters more than people realize. It keeps the whole thing from looking stiff and rigid, and it ties into the lawn a lot more naturally than a straight wall would. The stacked stone blocks are tight, level, and built to last - not just stacked up and hoped for the best.

Inside the wall, we laid down fresh dark mulch and planted a full row of arborvitae. Arborvitae are a go-to for good reason. They grow upright, they fill in fast, and they give you year-round greenery and privacy without a lot of maintenance headaches. Combined with the additional trees and shrubs already on the property, this bed pulls everything together into one cohesive landscape feature.

What we ended up with is a yard that now has a clear focal point and a lot more function. The wall keeps the soil and mulch right where they belong, and the plantings give the space a sense of depth and privacy. It's the kind of work that improves how a yard looks and how it actually performs over time.

Retaining walls like this solve real problems - erosion, undefined beds, wasted yard space. And when you pair solid hardscape work with the right plantings, the results speak for themselves.
