Shoreline erosion is a slow but serious problem. Water levels rise and fall, rain washes soil down the bank, and before long you're losing ground - literally. For lakefront properties, that erosion can undermine your yard, your landscaping, and eventually the structure of the property itself. This Cicero, Indiana homeowner knew it was time to do something about it.

We came in and installed a full riprap stone treatment along the slope running from the home down to the water's edge. Riprap works by using large, angular rock to absorb and deflect the energy of moving water. Instead of waves and runoff carving into the soil, the stone takes the hit and holds everything in place. It's one of the most proven erosion control solutions out there - and it lasts.

What we love about this one is how clean it turned out. The slope is completely covered with tight-fitting stone from the structure down to the shoreline, and the natural color of the rock gives it a sharp, finished appearance. It looks intentional. It looks good. And more importantly, it's going to hold up through whatever the water throws at it.

A lot of lakefront homeowners put this kind of work off because they're not sure what the right solution is, or they figure it's not urgent enough yet. But catching erosion early is always the better call. Once you lose significant soil or the bank starts to undercut, the scope of the fix gets a lot bigger. Getting riprap down while the slope is still intact keeps the job manageable and the cost reasonable.

If you've got a shoreline that's showing signs of wear - or you just want to get ahead of it before it becomes a bigger issue - this is exactly the kind of work we do. Retaining walls, riprap, erosion control - we handle it all.
