This Noblesville backyard had great bones - a raised circular paver patio with a block retaining wall and a hot tub area tucked inside a privacy fence. But the pavers had seen better days, and the surrounding yard had no real structure to it. The homeowner wanted the whole space to feel cohesive and intentional, not just a patio floating in the middle of a yard.

We started with the patio itself. Power washing, sanding the joints, and sealing the pavers made a huge difference. Sealed pavers hold up better against the elements, resist staining, and just look sharper overall. It's the kind of maintenance step that a lot of people skip, but it genuinely extends the life of the surface and keeps it looking fresh for years.

From there, we laid out a natural flagstone walkway that winds from the back of the yard right up to the patio. We set each stone into a gravel base, which gives the path great drainage and keeps everything stable underfoot. The irregular shapes of the flagstone give it that natural, organic feel - it doesn't look manufactured or stiff.

The plant design piece is what really pulled it together. We worked through the bed layout and selected a mix of shade-tolerant perennials suited to grow in under the canopy of that mature maple. Perennials are a smart investment because they come back year after year - you're not replanting annuals every season. The black mulch ties everything together and makes the plants pop.

The end result is a backyard that actually functions as an outdoor living space. Every element - the refreshed patio, the flagstone path, the planted beds - connects to form one cohesive design. That's what we're always working toward.
