This one was a fun build. A client in Cicero had a backyard trail that needed a full rebuild - and the main concern wasn't just looks, it was drainage and managing water runoff through the property.
Crushed limestone is one of our go-to materials for exactly this kind of situation. It packs well, allows water to filter through and move away from the surface, and holds up over time without turning into a muddy mess every time it rains. For a wooded property like this one, that matters a lot.
What we ended up with is a wide, clean path that flows naturally through the landscape and connects the home to the wooded area beyond. The edging keeps everything contained, and the crushed limestone surface sits level and stable underfoot. It fits the setting without looking forced.
Outdoor living spaces don't always mean a patio with furniture. Sometimes it's a trail that actually lets you use your yard - get out into it, walk it, enjoy it. That's what this client gets now. A functional, low-maintenance path that works with the land instead of fighting it.
If you've got a backyard that's hard to navigate because of poor drainage, erosion, or just a lack of a defined path, crushed limestone might be the right call. It's practical, it's durable, and when it's done right, it looks great too.
