A lot of homeowners want more privacy in their backyard but aren't sure how to get there. A wood fence does part of the job - but it doesn't block upper sightlines, and it definitely doesn't add any life or color to the yard. That's where a well-placed row of arborvitaes comes in.

Here's what we were working with on this Carmel property - a solid fence line that just needed some natural height added behind it. We planted a full row of arborvitaes spaced evenly along the fence, which will fill in over time and create a dense, green privacy screen that works year-round. Arborvitaes stay full through winter, so this isn't a solution that disappears when the leaves fall.

We also cut in a fresh landscape bed along the existing tree line on the right side of the yard. You can see the clean edge we established - straight line, defined border, ready to be planted and mulched. It's that kind of detail that separates a yard that looks maintained from one that just looks okay.

The goal with any landscaping job like this is to make it look intentional. Not just trees dropped in the ground, but a layout that's going to grow into something that genuinely improves how the property looks and functions. Privacy, curb appeal, and structure - this yard is getting all three.
