A lot of homeowners want more privacy in their backyard but aren't sure how to get there without putting up another fence. That's exactly the kind of problem a well-placed row of arborvitaes solves - and it looks a whole lot better doing it.

Here's what we were working with on this Carmel job: an open backyard running along a wood fence line with no natural screening. The neighbors are close, the sightlines are wide open, and there's nothing to break things up. Our crew got to work planting a clean, evenly spaced row of arborvitaes right along that fence - giving the yard an instant sense of structure and enclosure.

We also cut in a new landscape bed along the side of the yard. Getting the bed lines right is something we take seriously. A clean edge is the difference between a yard that looks intentional and one that just looks like someone stuck some plants in the ground.

Fall is actually one of the better times to plant arborvitaes. The cooler temperatures reduce transplant stress and give the root systems time to establish before winter - so these trees are already setting themselves up for strong growth come spring.

This is the kind of work that quietly adds real value to a property. More privacy, better curb appeal from the back, and a finished look that holds up year after year. That's what good plant design and installation is supposed to do.
