Pavers vs Concrete Patios - What's right for you?

Pavers and concrete are both popular patio options, but each offers different benefits depending on your budget, style, and long-term goals.

Pavers:

Design flexibility is one of the greatest benefits of a paver patio, which comes in many colors, patterns, borders, and textures. Pavers also generally perform very well under slight soil movement (beneficial in Indiana's weather extremes, like the freeze and thaw cycles that happen during Indiana's winters). If a single paver gets damaged or stained, there's usually no problem with replacing it without digging up the entire patio. The main drawbacks are the higher upfront cost and occasional joint sand maintenance.

Concrete:

A standard concrete patio tends to be less expensive than pavers and quicker to install. It also requires minimal upkeep in terms of joints and is very easy to clean. Stamped, colored, or aggregate (exposed pebble look) concrete is available if a plain grey patio just won't do. But concrete may crack due to movement of the soil below and temperature changes in the air above. Also, if your patio is damaged, it is quite hard to get it to blend back into the original color and texture.

So in essence, the paver patio may be more suited to those seeking a custom look, simpler repair later on, or longer-lasting value. A concrete patio may be best suited for those seeking a less expensive and functionally simple patio at an initial lower cost.
